Standard MIDI Files on the Net  "The Most Complete & Best-Maintained List of Sites with MIDI Files - Well Over 30,000 Unique Links.  Standard MIDI files are playable with MIDI plugins, MIDI players and MIDI sequencers. MIDI files are sometimes mistakenly called MIDIS or midi's."  These are files of digitally recorded music on the net.  There are copyright issues related to these so proceed with caution.  There are links to MIDI players available for download and some tips on using them.

Mojo's Musical Mouseum "A place where you can find the lyrics to your favorite kids' songs, send out a request for a long lost song, or maybe help somebody else find the one they're looking for."

Festival Finder  "where you'll discover the latest details on more than 2,500 music festivals in North America. Click to your favorite genre, or use the search feature to locate festivals by date, location, performers or festival name."  A commercial site, advertising is not obtrusive."

The Music Room from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.  "At the National Museum of American History, the past is not strictly a matter of objects and exhibitions. The Museum also explores history through dozens of musical performances every year. The links ... offer a sampling of our music and a chance learn more about the musical ensembles and programs at the Museum."

Online Music Resources from Freeality.com.  Includes links to MP3 music download sites and to music search engines.  There is a lot of up-front advertising.  Be careful of copyright law when downloading music files.

AMG All Music Guide  A good site for information on music styles and artists.  This is a commercial site and there are a lot of  ads and graphics - making loading slower than average, but the wait may be worth it.  Though there is no "button" for classical music, don't be put off.  Try searching a classical composer as an artist - or "classical" as a style.

The Rap Dictionary  "The Totally Unofficial Rap Dictionary has been around for quite a while now. [on the www since 1994] In that time, it has grown pretty large, considering the fact that it is kept by an unpaid volunteer."  Though this is not a commercial site, it does have advertising.

Richard Wagner Archive  "Rating: **** Extensive compilation of information on this composer, with particular emphasis on cultural and historical issues. Contains lists of Wagner's musical and literary works, a bibliography of scholarly writings, and brief essays on relevant topics (some essays and source materials are available only in German). Musical discussion is minimal, but there are numerous links to other sites and sound clips. The splendid presentation makes ample use of images, and Wagner lovers will appreciate the display of postcards celebrating the composer and his operas."    Britannica.com
