2000 Census Data for Port Arthur  (Note: You must have Adobe Acrobat to load this page.)  Included are: Table DP-1 - Profile of General Demographic Characteristics; Table DP-2 - Profile of Selected Social Characteristics; Table DP-3 - Profile of Selected Economic Characteristics; and Table DP-4 - Profile of Selected Housing Characteristics.  This information will be of particular interest to grant seekers, anyone preparing a business plan, and those who serve the community.  For past censuses it took two or three years for most people to access information in the detail presented here.  This didn't just happen.  Kudos to the Census Bureau for making this important public information easily available.

Gates Memorial Library - Lamar State College at Port Arthur   Note that all current card holders at Port Arthur Public Library are eligible for a library card at Gates Library.  Port Arthur Public Library furnishes a collection of children's materials which is administered by the Gates Library staff.

Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce and the Port Arthur Convention & Visitor's Bureau   Do you think nothing is going on in Port Arthur?  Look again.  Pay particular attention to the Community Calendar which should be consulted by any group planning a meeting.  Avoid conflicts with major community events by checking this on-line resource.  Register your event with the Chamber but remember that there are limitations (space, time, and computer resources) that dictate which things will be listed.  Chamber events will naturally take precedence.  -- This is also a great page for organizations to recommend to area newcomers.  This will help them get up to speed on what is going on in the community.  In addition to the Community Calendar and Chamber Events, major menu groupings include:  Doing Business in Port Arthur; Living in Port Arthur; Visiting Port Arthur; and More About Port Arthur. Jefferson County - Environmental Profiles  "A joint project of the Texas Center for Policy Studies and Environmental Defense, Texas Environmental Profiles is an information and on-line activism resource for the state of Texas. Our mission is to provide citizens, educators, journalists, and policy makers with easy to understand, current information on the environment in Texas as whole and communities within the state. Jefferson County - List of Microfilm at Sam Houston Regional Library.  This depository, a collection site for regional historical documents, is part of the Texas State Library.

Museum of the Gulf Coast  The Museum has outstanding exhibits including historical, pop culture, sports and music figures.  Internal page links include: Upcoming Programs & Events, Highlights, Personalities, and Exhibits.

New Handbook of Texas Online Search Results  This link provides 111 hits on a search for "Port Arthur" in the on-line version of The New Handbook of Texas.  Their search mechanism is currently being revised (4-23-04) so the link may not last.

Pleasure Island  "Port Arthur's Pleasure Island, an18.5-mile-long man-made body of land extending from the mouth of the Neches River on the northwest to the Sabine Causeway on the southeast, is surrounded by Sabine Lake and the Intracoastal Waterway."  Fishing piers, boat launches, marina, RV park, Walter Humphrey State Park (primarily for anglers), great bird watching, and nature trails are a few of the attractions on the island.

Port Arthur Little Theater  The Port Arthur Little Theater provides a rich combination of area talent onstage at its 4701 Jimmy Johnson Blvd. location.  This page has sections entitled Season, Memberships, Get Involved, Newsletter, About PALT, and Links.  Support this local live entertainment offering.  It has rewards that beat anything on the screen.

Port of Port Arthur  The maritime industry is alive and well in Port Arthur.  Recent expansion of Port facilities from two berths to five with huge increase in transit shed capacity is keeping the PORT in Port Arthur.

Texas Artist's Museum Society  "Texas Artist Museum was organized in 1972 and the museum was opened in 1987 after 15 years of planning and money-raising. In 2000 we celebrated the 13th year in the museum and the 28th year of the society that founded it. TAMS is the only art museum in Mid- and South-Counties."  Includes contact information and map plus schedule of events.
