Web Links: Motion Picture sites

Film Sound History Developed by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Middle Tennessee State University Student Chapter, this site provides the history of motion picture sound from pre-1920s to the 1990s.  Descriptions are technical - not for all film buffs - but the overview of development is an interesting diversion as a measure of the march of technology.  There are links to other sites dealing with sound in film and a chart of film sound formats telling when they were used.

All Movie Guide  A database of movies and movie information.  This is a commercial site but the ads are not "in your face."

The Internet Movie Database  Similar to the "All Movie Guide" - this site has a link to U. S. movie showtimes.  When the phone line to the theater is jammed, this can be a real help.  Just enter the town/state or zip code to get movie times for theaters in your area.  The info on each movie is very complete and there are biographical sketches, filmographies and pictures for lots of the stars.  It is a commercial site with lots of ads - but they don't seem to get in the way.

Online Film Resources from Freeality.com.  As with other Freeality sites there are lots of up-front ads - but there are lots of good links.
