The Compact Disc Collection - Over 1,000 CDs including 800 music and 200 CD-ROMs.  The music collection is growing and is currently weighted to classical interest.  The CD-ROMs (computer program discs) are primarily "Family Tree Maker" discs for genealogists donated by Friends of the LibraryCD-ROMs can be located in the Library catalog by limiting a keyword search by "material type" = software; or for music, limit the keyword search by "material type" = sound (music).

Music CDs are divided by category as follows: Band (BA); Ballet (BAL); Chamber (CH); General Classical (CL); Country (CO); Easy Listening (EL); Ethnic (ET); Folk (FO); Holiday (HO); Instrumental (IN); Jazz (JA); Juvenile (JUV); Light Classical (LC); Miscellaneous (MI); Movie Soundtracks (MO); Occasional (OC); Opera (OP); Popular (POP); Rock (RO); Sacred (SA); Vocal (VO).

The Port Arthur History collection includes a special collection of historic photographs. The Library seeks donations to this collection for preservation of  photos and documents for future generations.     *******An enormous amount of time has been given to this project by a group of dedicated volunteers headed by Mrs. James (Yvonne) Sutherlin.  Their tireless devotion turned a hodge-podge of files and folders into an organized collection maintained in archival quality (acid free) folders, boxes, and tissue.

Photographs have been placed in Mylar sleeves to protect them when they are being handled.  All who are interested in the preservation of local history owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Sutherlin who is currently chair of the Jefferson County Historical Commission and is working on organizing the photographic collection at the Museum of the Gulf Coast.  The efforts of Mrs. Sutherlin and her team of volunteers has twice been recognized by the Texas State Historical Commission.

Donations of books and other library materials are placed in our collections when they meet our collection development guidelines.  Donations which are not used directly are given to the Friends of the Library for their annual Book Sale.  Proceeds from the sale are used to support the Library in a variety of ways.

For more information see our Collection Development Policy.
